SOY BEANS VS TOFU (Semua Ada Disini)

SOY BEANS VS TOFU (Semua Ada Disini)

One difference between the East and the West is the kind of food that is consumed.  A lot of the food in the West tends to be processed vs the East, but I have found a lot of processed products in the East, too.

One of those things that is versatile are soybeans.  Very popular on both sides, but mostly in different ways.

In the West, there are many soy isolate products...processed to keep only the protein with all other nutrients removed.  They can be found in everyday products on the shelves like bread and protein bars.  Studies are showing a connection between these non-fermented soy parts and soy allergies, thyroid issues and endocrine disruption.

One big concern are the genetically modified soy beans (GMO).  Modified to survive herbicides, glyphosphate, these beans are exposed to this chemical.  I am sure most of you would like to have less of those in your lives.  The chemical has been looked at to see if it causes endocrine disruption affecting the production of estrogen.

Phylates found in soy products can also reduce the amount of minerals that can be absorbed. Goitrogens in soy can affect your thyroid leading to the following:
  • anxiety
  • insomnia
  • problem losing weight
  • difficulty conceiving children
  • digestive problems

Some say genistein and daidzein found in soy products can replicate the effects of estrogen so it can affect men negatively.
  • affecting your libido
  • mood swings

Now you must must be wondering, what about one of the most popular soy products out there available in the West and East?  Tofu!

Well, tofu is not fermented so the compounds above might still be found in your piece of tofu.

But there are ways around this so you can enjoy your soy product without having to worry about these components.  So what is the choice?  Choose fermented, whole soy products.  More to come later.
